Herald: release notes

Each version, newest first.

0.8.13

It carries the Steward's kit 2.36.1: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.36.1: GenieX 0.8.0 is the NPU's server on a Snapdragon.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. This kit comes after 2.36.0; 2.33.0 (Steward 0.19.4) is still to be released and doesn't depend on it.

0.8.12

It carries the Steward's kit 2.35.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.35.0: A release of an agent Castellan sells goes to the Exchequer, and no longer to the public releases repository.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. Agents for sale stop appearing in the public releases repository once the Exchequer 0.6.0 is deployed with its migration applied. Until then, releases go there as before.

0.8.11

It carries the Steward's kit 2.34.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.34.0: An agent's rounds never stop silently.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. This kit comes after 2.33.0 (Steward 0.19.4); if 2.33.0 isn't released yet, release it first.

0.8.10

It carries the Steward's kit 2.32.1: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.32.1: The kit names the app the person bought: Castellan.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.9

It carries the Steward's kit 2.32.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.32.0: A release goes to the agent's own repository, and to a releases repository only where one is named.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.8

It carries the Steward's kit 2.31.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.31.0: Local AI on every Copilot+ NPU, installed by setup: Qualcomm Snapdragon, Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen AI.

Before you update

  • The accelerators move from Reeve's config.json to %USERPROFILE%\.manor\accelerators\config.json the first time the Smith (or Reeve's keeper) reads them after updating: a copy, word for word, and Reeve's file is left as it was. Nothing to do.
  • On a PC whose NPU isn't set up yet, the Smith's or Manor's Set up now offers its maker's server and models (several GB) and asks first.

0.8.7

It carries the Steward's kit 2.30.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.30.0: A release is published to the Exchequer, Castellan's release service, as well as to GitHub.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.6

It carries the Steward's kit 2.29.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.29.0: Every agent's page fits a phone: the title bar's action and wide tables no longer push the page sideways.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.5

It names no folders of one particular PC.

What changed

  • Its entry for Manor (manor-agent.json) no longer names a Node in a folder only one PC has: it runs on Manor's own Node, or one installed in the usual place.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.4

It carries the Steward's kit 2.28.1: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.28.1: Security fix: a value with curly quotes in it could break out of a PowerShell string.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.3

It carries the Steward's kit 2.28.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.28.0: Required settings: an agent that can't work without something from you waits for it, and onboarding asks for it.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.2

It carries the Steward's kit 2.27.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.27.0: An accelerator's name is what the PC calls it, never a setting.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.1

It carries the Steward's kit 2.26.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.26.0: The kit names no one's GitHub account, private repository or folder.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.8.0

A shorter Settings page, a tour for new hires, and a page drawn with React.

What's new

  • A tour. When Manor hires the Herald it opens its tour: what the Herald does, the settings only you can choose (the variant, and for General purpose and the Financial guru where you are and which stocks to follow), then its page, section by section. Open it again any time at #/tour.
  • Settings show only your variant's. Choosing a variant shows its own settings at once; the others are kept, as they were, for switching back. Rarely touched tuning is folded under Advanced, and long sections fold away with links at the top.
  • The round's pace follows the variant. By default General purpose and the Financial guru read their sources every hour, so the weather and the markets stay fresh; Gamer and PC caretaker every 6 hours. A round interval you chose stays.

What changed

  • Settings that didn't need to be settings are gone:
  • "Watch installed games": the Gamer variant always does.
  • "Read per game": always 5.
  • The weather's units: they follow Windows' region.
  • A stock's name: Yahoo Finance's is used.
  • "Show the Developer Herald's news here too": it shows whenever the Developer Herald runs.
  • The summaries' sizes in tokens: they follow the accelerator the model runs on, so a graphics card reads longer notes in fewer pieces.
  • Summaries are the kit's shared settings: "Plain-words notes" (whether to summarize) and, under Advanced, "Model calls per round". The round interval is the kit's too, in minutes.
  • The page is drawn in the browser with the Steward's kit 2.25.0, in the same look. It keeps "3 hours ago" right as time passes, and redraws itself after each button.

Before you update

  • Your settings are kept. Your summary choices carry over to "Plain-words notes" and "Model calls per round", and a round interval you set stays. The settings that went are passed over quietly.
  • It needs the Steward's kit 2.25.0, which comes with this release.
  • Otherwise nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.7.5

It carries the Steward's kit 2.24.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.24.0: What every agent asked Manor, its owner or GitHub for by hand, from the kit.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.7.4

It carries the Steward's kit 2.23.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.23.0: Settings in React, and short; and a new hire's tour of its page.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.7.2

Herald comes in four variants: Gamer, General purpose, Financial guru and PC caretaker.

What's new

  • Choose a variant under Settings → Variant. Each keeps its own settings and news when you switch.
  • Gamer, the default, finds the games installed by Steam, Epic, the EA app, Ubisoft Connect, GOG, Battle.net, Riot and Xbox (or any games folder you name), finds their patch notes, and reports the launchers' own updates and your graphics drivers.
  • General purpose brings the weather for where this PC is (or a place you type), US weather warnings, local news, news sources and stock alerts.
  • Financial guru brings stock alerts (a big daily move, a price crossed, a new 52-week high or low), each stock's headlines and financial news. Nothing it shows is advice.
  • PC caretaker reads, and never installs: new versions of your apps, winget's available updates with their release notes, Windows builds and updates, a new BIOS, known exploited vulnerabilities for Windows or your apps, and graphics drivers.
  • Every source is public and needs no key. Only the place is sent for the weather, rounded to about 1 km. This release also brings 0.6.0, which was never released on its own.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.7.2

It carries the Steward's kit 2.22.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.22.0: The react part's components are GamerNexus's UI kit, in the manor's look.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.7.1

A summary is never said to be the NPU's when Herald doesn't know where it was written.

What changed

  • A summary kept from before Herald 0.3.0, or one from the Developer Herald that doesn't say where it ran, was labelled "from the NPU", even on a PC without one. It's now "from a local model".
  • The Steward's kit 2.20.0: a model on a graphics card is never called the NPU, and pages show a round as it starts and ends. What the PC has (detection's hardware.json) decides what a model runs on, never its name or address, and the page redraws itself when a round starts or ends.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.6.2

It carries the Steward's kit 2.19.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.19.0: Every release says what it brings: its notes are the agent's CHANGELOG.md entry for the version.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.6.1

Herald reads the installed graphics drivers from the Lamplighter first.

What changed

  • The Lamplighter already reads this PC's graphics cards every few minutes, so Herald uses that reading while it's fresh instead of asking Windows again each round. Without it, Herald reads Windows as before.
  • Each card keeps its feed, so nothing shows up as a new driver.
  • The Lamplighter's page can now say which new driver version Herald has found.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.5.10

It carries the Steward's kit 2.18.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.18.0: Non-employee projects: repositories that ride along with the manor.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.5.9

Offline, a feed that can't be read waits for the network instead of showing an error.

What changed

  • When this PC is offline, a feed, game or card that can't be read gets a grey offline badge saying when it was last read, not a red error, and it's read again next round.
  • The header no longer counts these as errors; it says how many are waiting for the network.
  • A feed that fails for any other reason is still an error.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.5.8

It carries the Steward's kit 2.17.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.17.0: A release is built, never the readable source, and published in the public Jcollier0120/Manor-releases.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.5.7

It carries the Steward's kit 2.16.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.16.0: Every agent's page uses the width of the window.
  • Behind the scenes: Herald has the tool that will build its releases.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.5.6

It carries the Steward's kit 2.15.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.15.0: Offline is waited out, never a failure.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.5.5

It carries the Steward's kit 2.14.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.14.0: The title bar stays at the top as the page scrolls.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.5.4

Manor can find Herald on GitHub.

What's new

  • Each release now carries Herald's own entry for Manor, so a Manor (0.4.35 or later) finds and installs Herald from its releases on GitHub.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.
