Surveyor: release notes

Each version, newest first.

0.4.18

Problems and warnings that have been fixed leave without waiting for the next round.

What's new

  • Every 5 minutes between rounds, the Surveyor now runs its checks for Manor, the staff, the code and the PC's quick parts again, and takes out whatever they no longer find. A Steward round that has gone through since, a log error that has aged out or was fixed by an update, a Reeve job that ran fine again, an update that installed, a checkout that caught up, OneDrive running again, idle sessions archived: each leaves the counts, Manor's Repairs and the Steward's alarms within minutes, listed under Cleared since the round with what was seen. Before, only an agent's page, its late round, its round errors and its schedule were looked at again.
  • Nothing is cleared from a look that couldn't be made: Manor not answering, an agent it didn't reach, a checkout git couldn't read, a part of the PC that failed.

What changed

  • A round that failed once and has run fine since is a note, not a warning. One that failed more than once is still a warning.
  • A log line that says it is "not counted as a failure" (the Auditor's audit of an accelerator still loading its model) is no longer taken for an error, and nor is a test that passed (ok 75 - …) or a subtest's name in the Steward's log.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.17

It carries the Steward's kit 2.36.1: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.36.1: GenieX 0.8.0 is the NPU's server on a Snapdragon.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. This kit comes after 2.36.0; 2.33.0 (Steward 0.19.4) is still to be released and doesn't depend on it.

0.4.16

It carries the Steward's kit 2.35.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.35.0: A release of an agent Castellan sells goes to the Exchequer, and no longer to the public releases repository.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. Agents for sale stop appearing in the public releases repository once the Exchequer 0.6.0 is deployed with its migration applied. Until then, releases go there as before.

0.4.15

It carries the Steward's kit 2.34.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.34.0: An agent's rounds never stop silently.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. This kit comes after 2.33.0 (Steward 0.19.4); if 2.33.0 isn't released yet, release it first.

0.4.14

An agent whose rounds have nothing coming is spotted at once, not hours later.

What changed

  • An agent that is on duty, isn't running a round, isn't waiting for your settings, and has no next round due can't run another round. The Surveyor now says so straight away ("<agent> has no next round scheduled"), not after three missed rounds. It replaces the "hasn't finished a round" warning for that agent.
  • An agent whose last round was held for settings only you can give reads as "waiting for your settings: <what>", from its round record as well as its page (agents on the Steward's kit 2.34.0 and later).
  • The warning clears within five minutes once the agent has a round due again.
  • This release also brings 0.4.13, if you didn't have it yet: an agent waiting for your settings says so, and no longer warns that its rounds have stopped.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.13

An agent waiting for your settings says so, not that its rounds have stopped.

What changed

  • An agent that holds its rounds until you fill in a setting only you can choose now gets one note, "<agent> is waiting for your settings: <what>", not a warning that it hasn't finished a round for hours. An agent whose rounds really stopped still gets the warning.
  • A warning like that already on the page clears within five minutes of updating, once the agent's page says what it is waiting for.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.12

It carries the Steward's kit 2.32.1: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.32.1: The kit names the app the person bought: Castellan.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.11

With the Thatcher hired, app updates come from its list.

What changed

  • When the Thatcher is installed and its last round is under 13 hours old, the Surveyor's app updates note comes from the Thatcher's list instead of running winget itself: security fixes are counted and listed first, the apps you held back on the Thatcher's page are named, and the fix opens the Thatcher's page to tick the ones to install.
  • Without the Thatcher, or when its list is stale or it doesn't answer, the Surveyor reads winget as before, and the note says why the Thatcher's list wasn't used.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.10

It carries the Steward's kit 2.32.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.32.0: A release goes to the agent's own repository, and to a releases repository only where one is named.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.9

It carries the Steward's kit 2.31.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.31.0: Local AI on every Copilot+ NPU, installed by setup: Qualcomm Snapdragon, Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen AI.

Before you update

  • The accelerators move from Reeve's config.json to %USERPROFILE%\.manor\accelerators\config.json the first time the Smith (or Reeve's keeper) reads them after updating: a copy, word for word, and Reeve's file is left as it was. Nothing to do.
  • On a PC whose NPU isn't set up yet, the Smith's or Manor's Set up now offers its maker's server and models (several GB) and asks first.

0.4.8

It carries the Steward's kit 2.30.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.30.0: A release is published to the Exchequer, Castellan's release service, as well as to GitHub.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.7

It carries the Steward's kit 2.29.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.29.0: Every agent's page fits a phone: the title bar's action and wide tables no longer push the page sideways.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.6

It names no folders of one particular PC.

What changed

  • Its entry for Manor (manor-agent.json) no longer names a Node in a folder only one PC has: it runs on Manor's own Node, or one installed in the usual place.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.5

It carries the Steward's kit 2.28.1: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.28.1: Security fix: a value with curly quotes in it could break out of a PowerShell string.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.4

It carries the Steward's kit 2.28.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.28.0: Required settings: an agent that can't work without something from you waits for it, and onboarding asks for it.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.3

It carries the Steward's kit 2.27.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.27.0: An accelerator's name is what the PC calls it, never a setting.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.2

Its page is drawn from smaller parts.

What changed

  • The page's code is split into smaller components, so it is easier to keep right. It looks and works as before.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.4.1

A failure in an agent's log stops showing under Repairs once that agent's tests have passed since.

What changed

  • The Steward's log has no times on its lines, so a test that failed once kept showing under Manor's Repairs as a warning ("Steward's log: round: [aletaster] failed: …") for as long as the line stayed in the log, even after the fix had passed its tests. Now a failure about an agent counts as over once a later line of the same log says that agent's checks passed (its tests or type check "ok", or a PR merged with "checks passed here"). Setting-up steps (installing packages, filling the kit, git) don't count as passing. If it fails again later, that newer failure shows as before.
  • A line saying a PR was merged with its checks passed is never taken for an error, even when its branch's name has "failure" in it.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. Warnings about failures that have passed since clear at the next survey.

0.4.0

A shorter Settings page, the staff as Manor knows them, and a tour for new hires.

What's new

  • A tour. When Manor hires the Surveyor it offers its tour: what it does, the three settings only you can choose, then its page, section by section. Open it again any time at #/tour.
  • The manor's page frame. The title bar, on and off duty, the theme and Back to Manor are the same as on every agent's page, and Run now is in the title bar.

What changed

  • Settings is short. It shows the checks, the daily report's time and Plain-words notes (one switch for the model's explanations, report, proposals and what's new). The round interval, model calls, the limits, the repository folders and the work for the manor are under Advanced.
  • The staff come from Manor. The Surveyor checks each agent Manor employs, with its page, folder and logs as Manor knows them. A newly hired agent is checked from the next round on, with nothing to add. Manor's page and folder, and the page that takes the manor's work, come from Manor too.
  • Gone from Settings: the staff list, Manor's page, folder and repository, the work queue's page, the four model switches (now one), and the room for each answer.
  • Without Manor, no agent is checked: the Surveyor no longer falls back to a list of its own.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. Your interval, checks, limits, folders and model choices are kept. A staff list or Manor page you set before is no longer read: Manor's own are used.

0.3.31

It carries the Steward's kit 2.26.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.26.0: The kit names no one's GitHub account, private repository or folder.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.30

No one's repositories or folders are built in: the Surveyor works from what's on your PC.

What changed

  • Manor's and each agent's repository start empty in Settings. Where Settings don't name one, the Surveyor uses the repository Manor's updates name for that agent, so suggestions are filed and tests run in your own repositories; an agent with none named anywhere isn't tested.
  • The repository folders it looks in start as the usual ones (source\repos, Projects and repos in your user folder) instead of folders only one PC has.
  • The examples in Settings no longer name anyone's repository.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual. Repositories and folders already in your settings.json are kept as they are. If your clones live somewhere else, add that folder under Settings, Repository folders.

0.3.29

It carries the Steward's kit 2.25.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.25.0: The rest of the settings audit's shared helpers, and a tour that fits the page it's on.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.28

It carries the Steward's kit 2.24.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.24.0: What every agent asked Manor, its owner or GitHub for by hand, from the kit.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.27

It carries the Steward's kit 2.23.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.23.0: Settings in React, and short; and a new hire's tour of its page.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.26

It carries the Steward's kit 2.22.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.22.0: The react part's components are GamerNexus's UI kit, in the manor's look.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.25

It carries the Steward's kit 2.21.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.21.0: A page drawn in the browser, with React: the kit's react part.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.24

It carries the Steward's kit 2.19.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.19.0: Every release says what it brings: its notes are the agent's CHANGELOG.md entry for the version.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.23

It carries the Steward's kit 2.18.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.18.0: Non-employee projects: repositories that ride along with the manor.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.22

No more warnings for what the Steward has already let go, or for Claude Code sessions still in use.

What changed

  • A Claude Code session counts as idle only after two hours without activity, so the one you're working in no longer shows up as idle memory.
  • A release, self-release or kit rollout that failed and that the Steward has since let go of counts as settled, instead of warning for a day. Merge failures still warn.
  • Lines in the Steward's log that record alarms it raised (which Manor already shows) no longer count as errors, and the Steward asking each repository on its own when it couldn't ask GitHub about all of them at once is a note, not a warning.
  • It carries the Steward's kit 2.17.0: A release is built, never the readable source, and published in the public Jcollier0120/Manor-releases.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.21

It carries the Steward's kit 2.16.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.16.0: Every agent's page uses the width of the window.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.20

Fewer warnings for what fixes itself.

What changed

  • A checkout whose only change is untracked files is still clean, so falling behind its remote is a note again rather than a warning: Reeve's hourly fast-forward catches it up.
  • The Steward's log lines about GitHub being unreachable are network blips it retries on its next round, so they're notes now. A failed round is still a problem.
  • The details a test report prints after a failing test no longer count as a second error; the failure itself still does.
  • Its releases are built with esbuild, ready for the Steward's kit 2.16.0. This release brings 0.3.19 too, which was never released on its own.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.18

It carries the Steward's kit 2.15.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.15.0: Offline is waited out, never a failure.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.17

It carries the Steward's kit 2.14.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.14.0: The title bar stays at the top as the page scrolls.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.16

Manor finds the Surveyor on GitHub.

What's new

  • Each release now carries manor-agent.json, the Surveyor's entry for Manor, so Manor 0.4.35 and later finds it on GitHub.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.15

It carries the Steward's kit 2.13.0: the parts every agent of the manor shares.

What changed

  • The Steward's kit 2.13.0: The NPU first.
  • The Steward's kit 2.12.1: A release zip's name has no spaces. This release brings it too, since the version that first carried it was never released on its own.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.14

Suggestions go to the Wright, and only when it can do them.

What changed

  • A suggestion's button now reads Give it to the Wright, and files the issue so the Wright picks it up. The Surveyor then follows it like its own work: confirmed when the problem is gone, reopened once when it isn't.
  • The button shows only when the Wright's queue answers and works in the suggestion's repository, and the suggestion isn't a hire. Otherwise the page says why in its place, with the draft there to copy.
  • A suggested hire's draft says how a new agent reaches Manor: a repository of its own with manor-agent.json at its root, then Hire on the role's card.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.

0.3.13

Dismiss all, and warnings that clear themselves between rounds.

What's new

  • Dismiss all, beside the Findings heading, dismisses every problem and warning shown, after one question. Show all again, under Dismissed, undoes it.
  • Every 5 minutes between rounds, the Surveyor looks again at warnings a quick look can settle: an agent that hadn't finished a round, whose page didn't answer, or whose round had errors. What has cleared leaves the findings, Manor's Repairs and the Steward's alarms at once, and is listed under Cleared since the round until the next round. After the PC sleeps, the agents' "hasn't finished a round" warnings no longer wait an hour to go.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it updates itself as usual.
