A file isn't found#
- It's in a folder the Clerk doesn't read. Its screenshots and scans folders are found by themselves; add any other folder of PDFs under More PDF folders. For other pictures, add their folder to Screenshot folders.
- It's only online, in OneDrive. Right-click its folder and choose Always keep on this device.
- It hasn't been read yet. At most 300 files are read a round; the page says how many are pending. They're read over the next rounds, or press Run now.
- It's a kind it doesn't read: TIFF, HEIC or an Office document.
- It's bigger than 100 MB: raise Largest file read under Advanced.
- The words are past page 5 of a PDF: only the first 5 pages are read.
The text it read is wrong, or missing#
- Handwriting reads poorly, and very small text in a big screenshot can be missed.
- Another language: Windows reads the languages installed for your account. Add the language in Windows' Settings > Time & language > Language & region, and the Clerk reads the file again when it next changes.
- A file it couldn't open (damaged, or in use) keeps its error, and is read again when it changes.
There are no captions#
The page says why:
- The local AI isn't set up: see Set up the local AI.
- "busy: captions deferred to a later round": the local AI was busy. They come on a later round.
- The picture has text: only pictures with almost no text (under 8 words) get captions, and only PNG and JPEG.
- Something was redacted in it: a picture that held a secret is never shown to the AI.
- Caption pictures is off in Settings.
Reading the text and searching work without the AI.
Files on an unplugged drive#
Their text is kept, and found, until the drive is back. A folder you take out of Settings loses its files at the next round.
Its page won't open#
Its page is http://clerk.localhost:18787/. Open on its card in Castellan starts it if it's down, and Castellan checks every two minutes that it answers, and opens it again if it has stopped.
