When the Cellarer isn't working as it should
What to do when the Cellarer isn't backing up, waits for a drive, says the drive is full, skips files, says the backup is on the same drive, or a restore check fails.

Nothing is backed up#
No place is chosen yet. Nothing is backed up until you set Back up to. See Set up a backup.
It's waiting for the drive#
The drive the backup goes to isn't plugged in, or its letter changed. Plug it in: the Cellarer backs up what changed when it's back. If Windows gave it another letter, change Back up to, or give the drive its old letter in Windows' Disk Management.
It says the drive is full#
The page says what waits for room. Free space on the drive, or turn off Keep earlier versions (Advanced) so changed files replace their copies, or choose a bigger drive. Nothing in the backup is deleted by the Cellarer: delete old Earlier versions folders yourself if you're sure.
It says the backup is on the same drive#
The backup is on the drive it backs up, so one failing drive would take both. Choose a place on another drive, best an external one.
A file is skipped#
- It's in use, by an open app. It's tried again each round: close the app.
- Its path is too long. Move it to a folder nearer the top, or shorten its folders' names.
- It can't be read: it may be locked, or need another account.
- It's only in OneDrive's cloud. OneDrive keeps it; reading it would download it. In Explorer, right-click it, and choose Always keep on this device to have it backed up.
A restore check failed#
A file didn't match, or was missing from the backup. The page says which. It's copied again the next round: press Back up now, then Check a restore now. If it fails again, the drive may be failing: back up to another.
Its page won't open#
Its page is http://cellarer.localhost:21010/. Open on its card in Castellan starts it if it's down, and Castellan checks every two minutes that it answers, and opens it again if it has stopped. Your backup is plain files: you can open it in File Explorer whether the page is up or not.
